11. Hermes

Name: Hermes

Description: Idea of Idea of Earthly Daimons

Idea of Earthly Daimons (χθόνιοι δαίμονες). Hermes emanates these daimons, whose everlasting aetherial bodies are like warm breath, and therefore invisible. Daimons transmit the actions of the supercelestial and celestial gods into space and time in our world. Sometimes they visit us in dreams. They have infallible information from the gods, but not scientific understanding of it. Since they live within the heavens, the daimons are also subject to Helios.

Hymns

Hymn 14: Twelfth Monthly Hymn, To the Daimons

Mode: Phrygian

We sing of holy daimons, who are near to us,
to them and also to the other deathless ones,
for daimons serve quite well the gods who’re more divine,
bestow the many benefits on our behalf,
disperse them all, which they receive from Zeus himself,
and which descend to us through all the other gods.
And thus they save us, with some purifying us,
and others elevating or protecting us,
and easily straightening our minds. And so, be kind.
